Principal’s Memo

March 24, 2010

Dear St. Peter’s Catholic School Families:

Question of the Week: This week’s question is from Sunday’s Gospel of John 8:1-11: Can you invite God’s help to free your life of mistakes and forgive yourself?  Take time to share your response to the question with your family, friends, and small faith community and at church/school committee meetings this week.

Character Education: Our character theme for the month of March is Conflict Resolution- focusing on the skill of communication.  Our Word Wise Quote of the Week is “If we are to live and work together, we have to talk to each other.” Eleanor Roosevelt.  As you spend time together this week (at the dinner table, riding in the car…), share with each other what the quote means and discuss how the Gospel message always challenges and encourages us to be peacemakers.

Catch of the Week: Congratulations to Haley Ridgeway, 6th grade, for looking out for younger students, and to Anthony Vazzana, 4th grade, for being especially helpful at aftercare. Thank you for your help and for setting a good example for the other students!

Stations of the Cross: Our junior high students will lead us in the Stations of the Cross on Friday, March 26, 2010 at 11am in the church.  Please make plans to join us.

Attention 4th Graders & Student Council Members: Your Pasta Party is scheduled for Thursday, March 25, 2010, in recognition of your outstanding efforts to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Fundraiser.  On Thursday, you will not need to bring a lunch, but remember to bring a snack for recess.  Olive Garden provides pasta and sauce, bread, and salad.  Once again, thank you so much for helping our fundraiser turn out to be such a great success.

Holy Week and Easter Vacation: The vacation schedule for Kindergarten-Eighth Grade Students is March 29 - April 9, 2010; for Preschool Students is April 1 – 9, 2010.  Classes for all students resume on Monday, April 12, 2010.

Annual Golf Tournament:  Hello everyone, it’s hard to believe it’s time for our annual golf tournament.  Historically, our tournament has achieved increasing levels of success, solely based on your assistance and participation.  Please look for a letter that your child will bring home soon defining all of the important details of the day!  Also included will be a few registration forms that you can distribute which will work for golfers and sponsors alike. Please return the “Letter of Intent” to the school office by March 26, 2010. This form is to help us get preliminary numbers. You do not have to provide the name of the golfer(s), sponsorship, nor payment just your intent to fulfill your Golf Tournament fundraiser requirement.

The order of importance for another successful tournament is as follows: golfers, sponsors, auction items, raffle prizes, and goodie bag items.

If you can assist with providing any of the above listed, thank you in advance.  The family obligation is one golfer, so please reach out to friends, family members, parishioners, co-workers, etc. and find one or more guests to play!  First and foremost, I encourage one person to play from each family.  If you don't play well or often, don't worry about it!!!  This tournament is designed for you to come out and have a great time! We play "best ball", which means all four players take a shot.  The next shot by each golfer is played from where the best ball lands.

If you are interested in volunteering in any way, please e-mail Jerome Toliver at jtoliver@rmjmarketing.com.  Thanks again!
