PTG General Meeting Minutes

January 17, 2008

Welcome and Opening Prayer – Matthew2:1-13

Question of the Week Discussion – “What does it mean to me that Jesus was a servant of all?”

Principal’s Report – Anne Lewis

·        Introduced Casey Jonesrebrandt and Brian Jacobs from Fallbrook Union Elementary School District.  This fall we launched a dual enrollment project with FUESD where SPCS students signed up as Independent Studies students in the public school district and were then able to take band classes at Iowa Street School for free.  Now we are looking at a school wide dual enrollment for next year (forms to be included in registration packet) that would provide SPCS with expanded learning opportunities.  Such possibilities include; new text books to be paid for by district funds, potential extended day instruction for both enrichment classes and/or special needs or tutoring Mon.-Thurs. from 3-5 pm (place to be determined) and this plan would also provide SPCS with access to district assessment tools.  More information to come…

·        Update on WASC process:  This year is the team visit year and the group was here on 1/14 to pick up Self-Study binders and take a preliminary tour of our facility.  They will be here the week of 2/11-2/15 for in-depth study of all classes and visual of SPCS in everyday working mode.  Once accreditation process is complete, we will begin another six-year school improvement plan process.  Areas already indicated to be worked on are staff development, continue to integrate technology into learning, working on increasing enrollment to improve financial stability (especially as it relates to hiring a Development Director), and creating events or opportunities for more cultural diversity in the school.

·        We have received ITBS scores back.  The teachers will review this week and then they will go out to parents.  Next meeting will go over how we did school-wide.

School Board Rep- Barbara Perez

·        Enrollment Drive – Working on ideas to increase enrollment and looking for committee to help, especially with follow up phone calls.  First plan is to send out mailing to Childrens Faith Formation students who do not attend SPCS and to take advantage of Catholic Schools Week 1/27-2/2 with student speakers at masses and a table with parents to answer questions outside.  We will invite any interested to come to the school and visit classrooms or even shadow a student to showcase our school.  We are also working with St. Martha’s on enrollment opportunities for their parishioners and coming up with a transportation idea to get students to Fallbrook easily.

·        Sign-up sheets were passed around.  Call Barbara Perez to help!

President’s Report – Shawn Mann

·        Introduced Elaine Hanlon as new Publicity Chair.  Please forward any pictures or press release ideas to her.

·        Still looking for a PTG Board Secretary (Michelle Mogilski volunteered and position was filled).

Vice President’s Report –Shawna Taitano

·        Family socials fundraiser is scheduled for Tuesday 2/5 at Trupiano’s.  They will have adult and children menu especially for us and will donate 20% of proceeds back to SPCS.  Remember there is no school on 2/6 (Ash Wednesday).

·        We are looking to do one more movie night in May as a free family social gathering.

·        Announced that Sylvia Berens will be our new Daddy/Daughter Dance Chair and the event will be held on 4/19.

Treasurers Report – Debbie Little

·        Went over updated financials for 2007.  We were over our goal for both Main Event and the Fantasy Drawing and are looking great so far.

·        Golf Tournament and Jog-a-thon fundraisers still upcoming, but we are in a great position to successfully meet our $70,000 goal for the year.

Ways and Means – Stacy Taylor

·        Big thank you to all who helped with Main Event and the Fantasy Raffle.

·        Jog-a-Thon – 2/1/08 (Sonia Ramirez, Chair) – Cathleen Huet gave presentation since this is the fundraiser by the kids.  We are looking to make $5500 and need T-Shirt sponsors ASAP.  There are class contests and prizes for cluster winners.  Purchase T-Shirts for only $5 and they will be red & white and can be worn for PE.  What a deal!  There will be a family picnic following the Jog-a-thon and pizza lunches will be available for $3/each.

·        Golf Tournament – Set for 4/28/08 (Jerome and Veronica Toliver, Chairs).  Jerome got up to make pitch for sub-committee volunteers.  He is looking for a catchy name for the tournament.  Jerome also introduced Joanne Estes who will be working on a Fashion Show for non-golfers during the tournament.  More details to follow.  Please contact the Tolivers to help!  We especially need corporate and business sponsors.
